ATAS: studying certain 'sensitive' subjects in the UK requires applying for an ATAS certificate, which applies to all students with a visa (except exempt nationalities); if your course requires ATAS clearance and you need a Student visa, the University will not normally issue a CAS until the ATAS certificate has been issued; processing takes up to 30 working days with no fast-track service; a conditional offer is enough to apply, and you can apply from six months before the course start; the page lists the taught courses requiring ATAS (mostly chemistry, engineering and acoustics-related).
