Entry Requirements for Chinese Applicants
- In 2026/27 there are 15,920 students from China enrolled on full degree programmes at UCL; graduate entry usually requires an upper second-class (2:1) or lower second-class (2:2) undergraduate degree, and some doctoral programmes additionally require a Masters degree.
- Grade conversion for Chinese applicants (2027/28 entry): at institutions reviewed by UCL, a 2:1 requires a minimum weighted average mark of 85% and a 2:2 requires 80%; at all other universities recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education, a 2:1 requires 90% and a 2:2 requires 85%.
- Some high-demand courses have higher thresholds, e.g. Law LLM (all specialisms) requires 87.5% (institutions on UCL's list) / 92.5% (other recognised universities), and MScs such as Business Analytics, Finance and Management require 87% / 93%.
- UCL Admissions uses its own reviewed list of Chinese universities (covering a selection of Project 211, Project 985 and Double First-Class universities, though not all of them); institutions on the list are assessed against the minimum requirements above.
- Taught Masters generally require a first or second-class bachelor's degree from a UK university in an appropriate subject (or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard); a small number of courses require the GMAT or GRE.
